Traditional Iron Japanese Hannya Mask & Hyottoko Hangers/ hooks
-----Description-----
The Hannya (般若) mask is just one example of the many different types of masks used by the traditional Japanese actors of Noh theater. Noh performances are very stylized representations of traditional and well known stories, developed in Japan during the 14th century. The Hannya mask is used in many noh and kyōgen Japanese plays, as well as in Shinto ritual kagura dances.
The Hannya mask portrays the souls of women who have become demons due to obsession or jealousy.
Hannya masks are one of the most used iconography in traditional Japanese tattoo designs.
