You may have seen a hannya mask or one, but let's dive into one of Japan's most important gods.

Who was Susanoo no Mikoto?

Susanoo-no-Mikoto is a central deity in Japanese mythology, known as the kami (god) of the storm, sea, and agriculture.

He is the younger brother of Amaterasu, the sun goddess, and one of the three noble children of Izanagi, the god of creation and life.

Susanoo is a complex god with a dual nature, often depicted as a wild, reckless god and heroic figure.

Along with the help of the God of Brewing, he is famous for slaying the eight-headed serpent Yamata no Orochi, from whose tail he retrieved the sword Kusanagi, later becoming one of the Imperial Treasures of Japan.

This heroism differs from his earlier behavior in heaven, which led to his banishment to earth.
