Traditional Japanese Karasu Tengu Mask
----Description-----
Karasu Tengu (鴉天狗 ) were 1st reported in "Nihon Shoki" (The Chronicles of Japan) in the 8th century, and since then, they've popped up continuously in Japan's archives. In "Tale of the Heike" (12C Chronicle of Japan) describes Karasu Tengu as "men but not men; bird but not a bird; dog but not a dog; they possess the hands of a human, the head of a canine, a pair of wings and are capable of both flight and walking." Reported also to have raptor-like claws and beaks as sharp as a katana (Japanese sword).
Some say Karasu Tengu is the descendent of Susano-o-no-Mikoto the storm god.
Karasu Tengu are also blamed for numerous catastrophes, including earthquakes, tsunamis, and plagues.
