Sarudahiko no Mikoto (猿田彦命) is featured in the Kagura dance Sarudahikonomikoto no mai (猿田彦命の舞)
This dance is performed at the beginning of Kagura. This deiety (God) is named God of "Saki Barai" which means to remove dirt from the road/ path ahead.
Sarudahiko Mask Meaning
Sarudahiko no Mikoto uses a Japanese sword or spear in every direction, cutting the air in the dance (Mai). The Mai is to remove misfortune and disaster from the journey ahead.
Sarudahiko cleanses the staff, the performers, the stage, and the audience.
